Sen Pok Chin Osooyoos Indian Band School Mural

The Sen Pok Chin Osooyoos Indian Band School Mural grew from some of the cirricular pods that Elders were teaching within the school. Upon meeting with the school's Elder Dalphine Derrickson she shared the different animal characters that are linked to our Siylx captikʷɬ and she shared how each character represented a different area of teachings for the children at the school. The intent of the mural was to create a mentoring experience for the children of the school. I worked with grades K-7 through the duration of 6 days teaching them the very basics of painting. The outcome of the mural was amazing to watch, each day the children came into school they each shared with their friends and peers which animal they had painted and expressed such pride in their work. The smiles on the children's faces as well as their parents was truly heart warming to witness.
